What is IRRI-6 10% Broken?
IRRI-6 10% broken sits between the retail-premium 5% tier and the standard 15% commodity tier. The cargo is dehusked, polished, and sortex cleaned through the same line as 5%. The only difference is the broken-kernel allowance, which doubles from 5% to 10%. Slight breakage is visible on inspection but the cargo still reads clean on a retail shelf.
Buyers pick 10% when shelf appearance still matters but the budget is tighter than the 5% retail premium tier. The grade is a sister origin to India's IR64 10% broken; specs match on grain length, milling profile, and broken percentage. For the cleaner premium grade, see IRRI-6 5% broken. For the standard commodity grade, see IRRI-6 15% broken.
Who buys IRRI-6 10%
East African importers running multi-tier portfolios pair 10% with 5% on the same vessel. Mozambique and Kenya retailers split 5% (premium SKU) and 10% (mid SKU) across the same store base. CIS importers also use 10% as the workhorse retail tier when 5% does not fit the price point. Daily FOB prices for all 9 IRRI-6 grades are on the IRRI-6 prices page.
